The role

As a Junior Infrastructure Engineer at Kustom, you’ll play a key role in building and evolving the platform that powers one of the most trusted checkout solutions in the Nordics. You’ll work across cloud infrastructure, data, networking, and observability to ensure our systems remain secure, scalable, and resilient as we continue to grow.

You’ll collaborate closely with engineers across product, backend, and data to design solutions that support high availability and low latency. In this role, you will work closely with more experienced engineers and gradually take on more responsibility as you grow into the role. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys solving hard technical problems, driving automation, and enabling teams to ship with confidence.

Things you'll be doing

• Contributing to the design, build, and maintenance of scalable cloud infrastructure on AWS to support high-traffic, mission-critical systems

• Managing and improving our Kubernetes environments, ensuring smooth deployments, strong security, and reliable performance

• Implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform to automate provisioning, configuration, and change management

• Working with and learning about observability across services using Datadog (metrics, tracing, alerting)

• Contributing to work related to PostgreSQL databases, including schema design, indexing, and performance tuning.

• Working with event-driven systems and streaming platforms like Kafka to support real-time data flows

• Collaborating with backend teams to design and deliver resilient architectures and efficient deployment pipelines

• Driving continuous improvements in automation, tooling, and reliability across our infrastructure

• Troubleshooting complex production issues related to performance, scaling, networking, or distributed systems

• Contributing to documentation, best practices, and cross-team knowledge sharing

Skills and experience you'll need

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

• Extensive hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services core services (EC2, CloudFront, RDS, S3, etc.)

• Experience with or exposure to Kubernetes and container orchestration

• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar tools)

• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (VPC, routing, load balancing, DNS)

• Experience with observability platforms like Datadog for metrics, tracing, and alerting

• Solid knowledge of PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexing, and query optimization

• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and data technologies such as Kafka

• Strong programming skills in Java (Spring Boot)

• Proficient in Git for version control and collaboration
